Flat Stanley

Chris’s class participated in the Flat Stanley project. He made a Stanley and sent it to me to spend a week with around Austin. (Click here if you’ve never heard of Flat Stanley.) Here’s the letter and pics I sent back to Chris.

Hi Chris,

Stanley arrived safely in Austin about a week ago. He was glad to get out of the envelope so he could stretch his legs. I introduced him to my dog, Trevi. They got along great. They enjoyed chasing each other around the house.

While I was at work, Stanley hung out with Trevi. Stanley played with my Transformers and Trevi played with his own toys. Stanley really liked the transformers

After I got home, Stanley and I would play air hockey. Stanley learned how to play quickly. If you look close in the picture, you can see that one time he beat me 7-0!

One evening I brought Stanley along to play poker with my friends. He did great, and won lots of chips. He has the best poker face.

During the weekend, Stanley and I went sight-seeing around Austin. Our first stop was the capitol building. Austin is the capitol of Texas, like Raleigh is the capitol of North Carolina. The Austin capitol building looks similar to the one in Washington DC, but the Austin one is actually 15 feet taller.

Our second stop was Mount Bonnell, which gives a great view of the town as well as the Colorado river that runs through Austin.

We then went to another lookout point where you can see the city’s skyline in the distance. It was very windy here, and after I snapped a picture of Stanley, he decided to fly! I was scared at first, because he didn’t tell me he was going to do that. But luckily he landed safely and was able to get back to the car.

I hope Stanley had a great time visiting. I know Trevi and I enjoyed having him around and hopefully we’ll see him again soon.

Love,
Eric
